ARTIST COMPLETES NEW MURAL AT GALLERY BETHESDA (PHOTOS)

Artist Jordann Wine has completed the latest public art addition to the plaza in front of the Gallery Bethesda apartments, at 4800 Auburn Avenue. Wine was hired by the Donohoe Companies to beautify a drab, blank wall directly opposite the plaza. This is her second finished mural in the Woodmont Triangle this year, and took about three weeks to complete by hand. You can get a sense of the painstaking process in the close-up photo below, where each triangle was pre-outlined with tape, and then painted.

The finished mural spans the 24x90' wall, and includes 26 shades of purple, and over 1200 triangles in all.  It's interesting how the purple matches with the hue of the windows across at Triangle Towers, at the time of day the final photo was taken. 

Wine is a native of Bethesda, and a graduate of Walt Whitman High School.

BAINBRIDGE BETHESDA PEDESTRIAN PLAZA ART UNVEILED - WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN? (PHOTOS)

The mesh artworks along the Bainbridge Bethesda pedestrian plaza are now being revealed (although I've given you a few sneak peeks at them on here over the last few months). But what do they all mean?

Artist Dan Steinhilber, and Alexandria landscape architecture firm Parker Rodriguez, designed the 4 mesh panels from chain-link material, to give animation to the pedestrian's journey through the passage between St. Elmo and Fairmont Avenues. As one walks down the plaza, a wavelike effect is generated. But it was also designed for still observation, as well. Hence the furniture along the plaza, placed to attract the public to sit and relax, while taking in the artwork.

Multi-colored vinyl webbing is woven into the steel mesh, and is meant to create an engaging color display under the lighting after dark. Stringed bulbs above, and live bamboo between the 4 installations, are intended to heighten the effects, the latter a natural contrast with the manmade art.

NEW MURAL AT PIKE & ROSE (PHOTO)

The latest design touch at Federal Realty's Pike & Rose development is this large mural on Old Georgetown Road. Other than the musical reference, it is mostly an abstract design, topped off with the development's official logo.
